Undergraduate Applications

New first-year applicants must finish secondary school in their home country by the time of enrollment to be eligible for university (comparable to the completion of senior high school in the U.S.). A student who has previously enrolled in a post-secondary (higher education) institution is required to apply as a transfer student.

First-year undergraduate applicants should meet the minimum requirement of GPA 2.5 on a U.S. 4.0 scale. Some majors have additional requirements for selective admission. Please inquire further about your intended program.

Application Deadlines

Apply by October 1 to be admitted for spring semester (beginning in mid-January), and by June 1 to be admitted for fall semester (beginning in late August). Late applications are accepted but we recommend that international students apply as early as possible to allow for pre-departure requirements.

Honors College

International students with outstanding intellectual and creative ability are encouraged to explore the Honors College. Application to the Honors College is by invitation only. Honors students participate in special classes, taught by distinguished faculty, which are small and emphasize active participation.

English Proficiency

All international undergraduate applicants must submit an English language proficiency test score to be considered for a Kent State program unless they meet specific exceptions or apply for conditional admissions.

KSU accepts a variety of English tests to demonstrate sufficiency, such as TOEFL iBT score of 71; IELTS Academic and IELTS Indicator score of 6.0; Duolingo English Test score of 100. Other test options are available. Please inquire for the complete list.

Conditional Admission

Undergraduate applicants who do not meet the minimum language score for admission may be admitted conditionally if they meet academic requirements.

Conditional Admission means students will take English language classes at our ESL Center before entering their programs.

English Proficiency Waivers

Depending on your educational background, you may be eligible for an English language proficiency waiver, meaning you do not need to take a language exam.

Please inquire for details about how to submit your English test score or to request an English proficiency waiver.

Graduate Applications

Graduate admission requirements and application deadlines differ from program to program, so you will need to follow the expectations of the specific department, school or college you wish to apply to.

All international graduate students must submit an English language proficiency test score to be considered for a Kent State program. Graduate programs set their own English requirements.

Some graduate programs offer conditional admission. Graduate applicants who are interested in conditional admission should still provide an English language proficiency test to be considered.

English Proficiency Waivers

Depending on your educational background, you may be eligible for an English language proficiency waiver, meaning you do not need to take a language exam.

Please inquire for details about your intended program, how to submit your English test score, or to request an English proficiency waiver.
